AEO - Authorised Economic Operator

As counter terrorism legislation gains momentum across the developed world, importers are faced with balancing the increased cost of compliance against the resultant commercial benefits.

TRS is perfectly placed to assist EU importers and UK companies who are involved in the international movement of goods to obtain AEO status.

The introduction of AEO status increases security for shipments entering or leaving the EU when forming part of a wider international supply chain. Holders of AEO accreditation will possess an internationally recognised quality mark that demonstrates they operate within a secure supply chain and that their internal compliance processes are robust and credible. This status will result in reduced Customs interventions and delay when goods are imported to or exported from the EU. Indeed, it is widely anticipated that consignments will be fast-tracked through customs controls through newly created ‘green lanes’.

TRS is well positioned to assist companies in gaining this accreditation. It is our view that all serious players in the global marketplace should look to take immediate action.

The commercial benefits of obtaining AEO certification are detailed below;

  • Maintaining an edge over competitors,
  • Fewer physical and documentary examinations
  • Consignments may be fast-tracked through Customs control,
  • Where selected for examination, priority will be given over non AEO accredited companies,
  • Internationally recognised “kite-mark”,
  • Inclusion in future reciprocal arrangements with others that adopt the WCO SAFE Framework.

Further benefits will be attained when the Modernised Customs Code is implemented. These should include a number of additional benefits, some of which are expected to be guarantee waivers and centralised clearance.
